Jun 17, 2009 · I've taken hundreds of Sambar deer over the years and we have eaten plenty,the meat is a bit coarser than the other deer species but is still good table fare. In my opinion they are not eating as good as any of the other species we have here in Australia ,that being Red Deer, FallowDeer, Hog Deer, Chital Deer and Rusa Deer.

Jun 18, 2012 · It is more like a western mule deer/ elk pack in hunt than a whitetail stand hunt. You hunt from a stand, but the work and effort is like a western hunt. So i'd prepare your body accordingly. Sambar like to eat aquatic vegetation, you may want to hunt where one could be eating or moving to aquatic vegetation. The sign is HUGE and easy to spot.

The South Pacific is the only region in the world this species can be hunted. Closely related to the rusa, sambar also prefer to inhabit thick scrub and bush however this species frequently ventures out into small clearings to feed.

The Don had booked a shikar for a sambhur deer and a large forest panther . I understand that his grand son is a member of these forums.

Dec 5, 2013 · Now this was a very fine rifle and served me well taking both Fallow and Sambar deer - and l have a real soft spot for Winchester M70's, but it was a pretty light rifle. And even though it was Magnaported and l was using 180gn projectiles instead of the 225gn, people who shot it all commented on it's heavy recoil.
