Starbucks Corp.’s chief executive officer said the coffee chain is making progress in reviving sales, but weaker-than-expected results in the latest quarter amped up pressure for the company’s new management to deliver.

Shares of Starbucks have fallen 8% this year, as investors worry about tariffs and how they will affect consumer spending.

But those efforts have been costly. Starbucks said its net income dropped 50% to $384 million in its fiscal second quarter. Adjusted earnings fell nearly 40% to 41 cents per share. That was lower than the 49-cent per share profit Wall Street forecast.
