Deborah Smith, the British translator widely credited for introducing Nobel Prize-winning author Han Kang's works to the global stage, recently shared the novelist's reasoning for declining a post-award press conference on social media.

Han Kang has won the Nobel Prize for literature, the Swedish Academy announced last week, for “intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life”. She is the first South Korean writer to be awarded the literature prize.
