The university's president, the victim's father and school leaders from the victim's high school have identified the slain man as freshman Kareem Bilal Badawi, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The University of Alabama said one of its students, Kareem Badawi, was killed. "I grieve alongside family and friends of Kareem in their heartbreaking loss," UA President Stuart R. Bell said.
