After striking a deal with tight end George Kittle, the San Francisco 49ers could be nearing an agreement with quarterback Brock Purdy on a long-term contract. On the latest episode of the Scoop City podcast (starts at 8:45 mark), The Athletic's Dianna Russini said Purdy and the 49ers are "closer" to a deal than is being reported elsewhere.

The 49ers have some thinking to do. This is the same guy who led them to a Super Bowl in his first season as a full-time starter. San Francisco went 12-5 during the 2023 regular season, and Purdy passed for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns.

Eyebrows were raised when it was suggested following the 2025 NFL Draft that contract extension talks between the San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Brock Purdy could last through the spring because the two sides were "not close" to agreeing to terms.
