Florida Highway Patrol troopers have confirmed the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in the Tampa area has been shut down. The massive bridge spans over 4 miles of Tampa Bay from St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia.

At 7:33 a.m. on May 9, 1980, the 606-foot Summit Venture crashed into the western span of the bridge during a storm.
