Power has been restored to tens of millions of people across almost all of Spain and Portugal, but disruptions to transport services were expected to stretch into a second day as questions mount over what caused a massive blackout.

Power has been restored to most areas of Spain, Portugal and southern France after a major outage wiped out the Iberian peninsula. Trains, planes and traffic were brought to a standstill on Monday 28 April after the power network went down. Mobile phones, cashpoints, supermarkets and schools were also affected as the electricity supply was cut off.
