Re: “After 236 years, our democratic republic is dead” (Page A6, April 25). Joe Matthews wrote a very moving and truthful obituary about the death of America, our democratic republic.

That’s because, on average, the subject comes up at least once a week, as readers seem to have an insatiable interest in the hows and whys of our letters page. A lot has happened since last fall.
