Project Kuiper is the name for Amazon’s planned satellite internet service. The company intends to offer fast, affordable broadband by launching its own network of thousands of low Earth orbit satellites – the first of which have now been successfully launched.

Amazon, a company that Jeff Bezos started as an online bookseller decades ago, launched the first batch of 27 internet satellites for its ‘Kuiper’ broadband internet constellation on Monday. It aims to compete with SpaceX Starlink.

The company sent 27 Kuiper satellites into orbit Monday, but it needs to get thousands more to space to match SpaceX’s Starlink.
