A woman from Washington state has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent in Vermont, where authorities had for days been watching her and a German companion who also died in the roadside shootout.

Federal agents are investigating after a US Border Patrol agent was shot and killed Monday afternoon on the highway in Vermont.

The FBI arrested 21-year-old Washington state woman Teresa Youngblut in connection with the fatal shooting of U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Maland.

Agent David “Chris” Maland died in a shooting following a traffic stop, the FBI said. A second person killed in the incident was a German national in the country on a current visa, authorities said.
