New York Giants’ offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka is in a good position to land a head

After interviewing with the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons, Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has been linked to another potential job opening in the NFL.

The troubling downturn for the Giants and their offense the past two years seemingly has not touched or damaged Mike Kafka’s reputation.

Aaron Glenn is off the table for the Saints, now that the Jets have hired him to be their head coach. So what now for the Saints? Well, Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka — who surely wants to get away from Brian Daboll and the disaster in East Rutherford — is still a finalist in New Orleans.

Based on the Rooney Rule’s language, if the Giants lose one of these two men (Brown or Kafka), they would get a compensatory third-round draft pick in both 2025 and 2026. If the Giants lose both, they would get an extra such comp pick in 2027 — but not a fourth such comp pick in 2028.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, New Orleans has scheduled in-person interviews with Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. Kafka’s interview is slated for Tuesday while Weaver will be in town to meet with the club on Wednesday.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Kafka is expected to bring former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale with him to New Orleans in the same role. Martindale spent two seasons with the Giants as the defensive coordinator under head coach Brian Daboll before the former's fiery and extremely public exit during the 2024 offseason.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis said that the team wanted to get the best coach possible and that they weren't in a hurry. They've also had months to prepare for this ever since they were out of the playoff mix. The new head coach will also be able to make a decision on the coaching staff.
