A female swimmer has died in a shark attack in the waters off a popular tourist spot on Australia’s east coast, authorities said.

An Australian teenager from near Brisbane died on Monday after being bitten by a shark nearly 100 yards from the beach, according to reports.

The Queensland Ambulance Service responded to a 'serious shark bite incident' involving the 17-year-old victim at Woorim Beach, north of Brisbane, at around 4:45 p.m. local time on Monday, Feb. 3, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The attack was the second shark fatality in the country's waters this year, about a month after surfer Lance Appleby was killed off the Southern Australia coast, per BBC and CBS News. It was also the third attack in Queensland in less than three months, ABC News reported.

The 17-year-old was attacked around 100m from shore of Woormin Beach, Australian media reports.

Paramedics rushed to treat the teenager who was swimming off a beach in Queensland, but say she succumbed to serious injuries to her upper body.
