Police say the search is over for a patient who escaped overnight Friday from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program facility in St. Peter.

The man who escaped the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in St. Peter early Friday morning is in custody. Per St. Peter Police Department, Beau-Jacob Edward Zimmer was apprehended at around 7 a.m. "We would like to thank the public, particularly the citizen who spotted him and notified law enforcement this morning!" the department said.

ST. PETER, Minn. (KFGO) – A search for an escaped inmate from the Minnesota Sex Offender Treatment Program in St. Peter is over. 45-year-old Beau Zimmer left the campus at about 1:30 a.m. Friday on a bike, armed with a kitchen knife. He was apprehended several hours later walking along a county road near St. Peter.
