Rafael Devers is a homegrown Boston Red Sox superstar, a player who has consistently delivered for the BoSox since 2017 as a star in MVP conversations at times. He deservedly got a 10-year, $313.5 million contract back in 2023 and continues to be terrific on a American League contender this year.

Rafael Devers has posted good numbers to begin the season as well, but he has been involved in some negative headlines of late. After the Red Sox requested Devers to switch to first base, the 28-year-old declined. He has made it clear that he has no interest in making that kind of a change in his personal career.

In the wake of the season-ending injury to first baseman Triston Casas, the Red Sox asked Devers to play first base, but Devers refused. Devers feels he is forced to be the player to make the sacrifice when he feels the front office should be finalizing a reliable first baseman.
