The RAF has sent Typhoon fighter jets to intercept an Indian flight heading into London’s Heathrow Airport after it declared a ‘bomb threat’. An Air India flight from Mumbai declared an emergency earlier this afternoon.

Royal Air Force fighter jets were scrambled above the UK to intercept an Air India plane bound for Heathrow after the flight reported a bomb on board the plane.

The Air India jet was circling over Norfolk before the Typhoon interceptors met it. An RAF spokesman said the alert ended without incident and the Boeing 777-300 "was released to continue to its original destination".

RAF jets appear to have been 'scrambled' following the suspected bomb on board Flight AIC129 from Mumbai as it approaches Heathrow.
