The Lebanese Hezbollah group on Wednesday said it fired a barrage of rockets toward the Glilot base of the Israeli army's military intelligence unit 8200 near Tel Aviv, central Israel. The group also announced firing more rockets toward towns and areas in northern Israel.

Hashem Safieddine was widely seen as a potential successor to his cousin, Hassan Nasrallah, the armed group’s former leader whom Israel also killed in September. There was no immediate confirmation from Hezbollah.

Israel's military said it had killed three Hezbollah commanders and some 70 fighters in southern Lebanon in the past 48 hours, a day after confirming it had killed Hashem Safieddine, the militant group's heir apparent leader.
