"In Massachusetts, our schools should be a truly safe space where kids can grow, learn, make mistakes, and develop healthy relationships," Senate President Karen E. Spilka, D-Middlesex/Norfolk, said.

There are more than half-a-dozen school cellphone bans proposed on Beacon Hill right now. "We should definitely have it in our locker, but I don't think we should use them," said Veronica Churilove, a middle school student in Watertown.

The bill now heads to the desk of Gov. Kay Ivey, who has already signaled her approval and intent to sign the bill into law.
