Pakistan and India — nuclear-armed rivals — are trading fire as tensions escalate after an Indian attack. Pakistan claims Indian jets were shot down.

Officials and witnesses said that at least two Indian aircraft had crashed after India struck Pakistani targets, escalating the conflict between the nuclear powers.

India announced a military "Operation Sindoor", "hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir". Islamabad called it "an act of war" and responded with retaliatory strikes.
