Southeast Texas on Friday is facing a rare heightened risk of severe weather, a threat level seen only when destructive weather events have followed, such as last May's derecho and the post-Christmas tornado outbreak.

HOUSTON — Severe weather moved through the Houston area on Friday. There were numerous Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and a Tornado Warning. The storms brought hail in parts of Liberty County and Harris County. We haven't seen or heard of any damage, but the watches and warnings were coming fast and furious throughout the day.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins in one month, on June 1. Forecasters have a multi-year plan to reimagine the famous forecast cone. A 3.9-magnitude earthquake rattled Wasatch and Utah Counties just past midnight on Thursday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
