A left-handed starter who spent part of six seasons with the Atlanta Braves reportedly inked a minor-league deal with the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

The Boston Red Sox looked to add to their bullpen by signing local, Boston-area pitcher Sean Newcomb, who was once a top prospect and first-round draft pick.

The Boston Red Sox announced today that Sean Newcomb will be one of five non-roster invitees to Spring Training.  If you can believe it, Newcomb is still in baseball.

The Boston Red Sox signed former Oakland Athletics and Atlanta Braves left-hander with MLB experience to bolster their pitching roster. The Boston Red Sox have bolstered their pitching depth by signing left-hander Sean Newcomb to a minor league contract.

The Boston Red Sox had a big need for bullpen help this offseason, and while they've added a few pieces, they've yet to add a lock-down closer to really separate their relief options from the rest of the pack.

In addition to Sean Newcomb, the Red Sox also signed free-agent right-hander Yovanny Cruz to a minor-league contract earlier this week and invited him to major-league spring training on Friday, per a club announcement.
