A former Boston Bruins forward was traded ahead of Friday’s 3 p.m. deadline. The Chicago Blackhawks traded Craig Smith and Petr Mrazek to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Joe Veleno, The Athletic’s Chris Johnston reported.

The Detroit Red Wings traded versatile 2018 first round pick Joe Veleno to the Chicago Blackhawks for goalie Petr Mrazek and forward Craig Smith. Veleno hasn’t developed the offensive impact the Red Wings hoped he would when they drafted him.

Veleno went from a playoff hunt with Detroit to the top of the draft lottery with Chicago, but he's determined to help the rebuild.
