The pool of potential candidates to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to dwindle with both former B.C. premier Christy Clark and Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne announcing they won't seek the Liberal Party leadership.
Following his speech at the Canadian Club, Champagne will meet with the Burlington Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday afternoon alongside his cabinet colleague and Burlington MP Karina Gould, who is also considering a leadership run and is expected to make her intentions known soon.
"There are time constraints, no doubt about it," Liberal MP Yasir Naqvi told reporters in Ottawa Monday, noting a federal election will follow closely after the new leader is chosen. "It's important we have a strong leader in place as quickly as possible.
