Rwanda is in preliminary discussions with US President Donald Trump's administration to potentially accept migrants deported from the United States.

The negotiations mark an expansion in U.S. efforts to deport people to countries other than their own. It has sent hundreds of Venezuelans and others to Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama but has yet to announce any major deals with governments in Africa, Asia or Europe.

The tiny east African country of Rwanda says it's holding "early talks" with the Trump administration about taking in deported migrants from the U.S.
