The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is over as Israeli fighter jets began striking the Gaza Strip after Hamas refused repeated hostage deal offers, officials said.

“Hamas could have ended the war in Gaza months ago by surrendering and freeing the hostages. Hamas could have extended the ceasefire deal by accepting the U.S. proposals that Israel accepted,” AIPAC stated. “Hamas chose to continue the war and hold 59 people hostage. Hamas is responsible.”

Hamas said Saturday it will only release an American-Israeli and the bodies of four other hostages if Israel implements their ceasefire agreement, calling it an “exceptional deal” aimed at getting the truce back on track.
