The figure skating son of the former world champions and coaches who were killed in the American Airlines tragedy in Washington, D.C. sobbed after an emotional performance dedicated to his late parents Sunday.

The performers at the “Legacy on Ice” benefit included Maxim Naumov, whose parents, figure skating coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were among those killed when a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter collided with a regional jet near the nation’s capital on Jan. 29.

A star-studded group of some of the best U.S. figure skaters of the past and present took the ice in the nation's capital to remember and raise money for the victims of the midair collision outside Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

At the end of his figure skating performance, when the last note of his parents’ favorite song played in an arena packed with spectators and heavy with sorrow, Maxim Naumov dropped to his knees at the center of the ice. He remained there for what seemed like forever, awash in a spotlight, looking lost and sobbing.

One of the possibly most heart-wrenching performances was that of Maxim Naumov, who skated in honor of his parents, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov.

WASHINGTON — Organizers of a figure skating benefit event in Washington said they have already raised $1.2 million for victims of the D.C. plane crash and first responders.

A "Legacy on Ice" tribute with performances by Olympians and others honored nearly 30 figure skaters, coaches and family members who were killed in January's plane crash near Washington, D.C.

Dzens of U.S. figure skaters descended on the District this weekend: to honor the coaches, skaters and family members they lost in January’s American Airlines crash outside Reagan National Airport.

The memorial event at Capital One Arena was co-hosted by Olympic champions Brian Boitano and Kristi Yamaguchi.

Monumental Sports reported a sold-out crowd of more than 15,000 attendees including 400 first responders and 150 family members of victims.
