Torborg won the 1965 World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His tenure as Mets manager was less successful.

Torborg, who had a 10-year career as a catcher, caught Sandy Koufax’s perfect game and Bill Singer’s no-hitter. A New Jersey native, Torborg played for the Dodgers and Angels before embarking on managerial and coaching career. In his final years, Torborg battled Parkinson’s Disease.

Former Mets manager and Yankees coach Jeff Torborg died Sunday morning, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced.

The Westfield, N.J., native managed the Mets for less than two seasons and had an extended coaching career with the Yankees in various roles.

He called every pitch of Sandy Koufax’s perfect game in 1965. After 10 seasons playing in the majors, he skippered the White Sox and the Mets.

Jeff Torborg, a former player who caught three no-hitters and was named the 1990 American League Manager of the Year with the White Sox, passed away Sunday. He was 83. Torborg spent the last three seasons of his Major League Baseball career with the Angels.
