Dena J. King, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, announced the sentencing in a press release on Feb. 7. Last week, Charlotte residents Nakedra Shannon, 30, and Desiray Carter, 30, were sentenced to 60 months and 54 months in prison for the crimes, respectively.

According to a 2023 Department of Justice (DOJ) press release, Nakedra Shannon — along with co-conspirators Donnell Gardner and Desiray Carter — stole over $24 million worth of checks while working as a USPS mail processing clerk in Charlotte, N.C. They then sold these stolen checks to other people, the release states.
