It’s always fun to see athletes forced to play out of position, but there was nothing quite like seeing A’s catcher Jhonny Pereda take the mound to pitch to Shohei Ohtani. Arguably the greatest player in baseball simply had no answers to to Pereda’s stuff in one of the most staggeringly weird at bats of the year.

The Dodgers crushed the Athletics 19-2, but a surprise strikeout from an unlikely pitcher stole the spotlight — and gave Oakland a rare moment of joy.

Shohei Ohtani had a monster game on Thursday night as the Los Angeles Dodgers blew out the Athletics 19-2 at Dodger Stadium. Ohtani hit home runs in back-to-back innings to move into a tie for the league lead during the victory.
