The National Transportation Safety Board is urging Louisiana's transportation department to assess the safety of eight of its bridges, including almost all of the bridges crossing the Mississippi River in the state.

A new NTSB report warns that 68 bridges nationwide, including six in Louisiana, may be at risk due to increased ship traffic and structural vulnerabilities.

The safety board issued recommendations as part of its ongoing investigation into the collapse of Baltimore’s Key Bridge last year after it was hit by a ship.
