Wildlife officials reported a black bear attack may have resulted in the death of a man and a dog just south of Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area on May 5, 2025. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials warned that the animal may remain in the area and urges residents to remain vigilant and avoid the area.

The attack occurred in a rural area east of Naples, just south of Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area, authorities said.
