COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A spectator at a high school track and field meet was killed after an athlete’s hammer went out of bounds Sunday morning. UCCS, which hosted the meet, said it was heartbroken over what it called a “horrible accident.”

According to UCCS, a club sports track and field meet for high school students from across Colorado was taking place at the Mountain Lion Fieldhouse on the UCCS campus when around 9:30 a.m., a hammer thrown by a participant cleared certified barriers and hit a member of the audience.
