China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), the world’s largest producer of electric vehicle batteries, has unveiled an upgraded battery that promises an even longer range than rival BYD’s cutting-edge technology.

China's CATL has announced a set of new incoming products, including a battery it claims has set a "new global record for superfast charging technology."

CATL's new Shenxing battery cell can reportedly provide a range of up to 520km from just five minutes of charging time. The announcement comes just days after BYD, an automaker with its own battery and semiconductor production, unveiled a similar system that can offer a range of about 400km in roughly the same charging time.
