LONDON (AP) — Parts of the U.K. were flooded Wednesday as heavy rains and powerful winds continued to disrupt New Year’s celebrations. Several communities in the Manchester area were flooded, with cars submerged up to their roofs on roads and in parking lots after nearly a month’s worth of rain fell in two days.

Several amber and yellow weather warnings are being forecast for the UK, starting tonight (Monday 30 December) and going well into Thursday 2 January, which is putting a literal dampener on New Year festivities.

The UK is braced for an "unsettled" start to 2025 with heavy snow, rain and wind expected to cause travel disruption over New Year's Eve. Almost every part of the country is covered by at least one of the multiple weather warnings that have been issued by the Met Office between Monday and Thursday.
