The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will no longer update its widely cited list of weather and climate disasters that cause billions of dollars in damage, in yet another example of the Trump administration's hostility towards climate science.

The insurance industry used the public database to estimate future costs, while local governments turned to it for lessons on building resilient infrastructure.

The agency said its National Centers for Environmental Information would no longer update its Billion-Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters database beyond 2024.
