The European Space Agency said on Monday it was studying the impact of U.S. budget proposals that include cuts to NASA moon programmes in which it has a role, and said it remained open to cooperation with the U.

NASA's budget as a whole would see agencywide cuts that go beyond human exploration, with the total budget dropping $6 billion from $24.8 billion to $18.8 billion ‒ or nearly 25%. NASA's science budget takes a particularly significant hit.

The White House's proposed 2026 budget cuts $6 billion in NASA funding and cancels Mars sample return and the Gateway moon-orbiting space station, among other projects.
