While the Indiana Jones film took advantage of the mystical look of the location in Petra, a new revelation has now come to light.

Archaeologists have discovered a 2,000-year-old tomb containing the remains of 12 individuals at Petra in Jordan.

A chamber buried underneath the Treasury, also known as Al Khazneh, contains the remains of 12 people and other items they say could finally reveal the structure’s secrets and shed some light on the origins of Petra,

Despite its fame, an archaeological dig conducted by American and Jordanian researchers uncovered a hidden tomb featuring 12 human skeletons.

Jordanian archaeologists first discovered hidden tombs around the Treasury, now a popular tourist site, in 2003, according to Creasman. Though the archaeologists suspected that a tomb underneath the Treasury existed, they “ran out of time” to complete their exploration, Creasman said in an email.
