Thousands of protesters flooded Bay Area streets Thursday for May Day – many of them holding signs with slogans declaring “resist fascism” and “impeach Trump” – in a rebuke of Trump administration actions, marking the third such mass mobilization in recent weeks.

May Day protests were set to sweep the Bay Area on Thursday from San Jose to Oakland on the international day dedicated to supporting workers. May Day often draws rallies and protests in support of labor. Many of the protests planned for Thursday are also aimed against the Trump administration.

The protests are part of more than 900 rallies planned across the nation. The demonstrations are being organized by May Day Strong, a coalition of more than 160 grassroots organizations. Organizers say the protests are being held to oppose various Trump administration policies on public education, unions, immigration and health care access.
