Hawaiian Electric said it will cut power to communities on the western side of Maui as high winds and dry conditions create conditions ripe for the risk of wildfires.

“The Galapagos was incredible,” he says, “like a walk in a prehistoric time. There were so many sharks in very dark water, and the experience was to connect me more deeply with them. They’re a very sophisticated animal and not very well understood.”

Hawaiian Electric called a Public Safety Power Shutoff event for West Maui around noon Wednesday ahead of potentially hazardous wildfire conditions. This is reportedly the first time the utility has initiated PSPS since the deadly Maui wildfires.
