"Too often, businesses make people jump through endless hoops just to cancel a subscription," Commission Chair Lina M. Khan said in Wednesay's announcement. "The FTC's rule will end these tricks and traps, saving Americans time and money. Nobody should be stuck paying for a service they no longer want."

Under the so-called "click-to-cancel" rule, if customers decide to enroll in a subscription online or through an app in one step -- they should be able to cancel that way, too.

The FTC adopted a final rule requiring businesses to make it as easy to cancel subscriptions and memberships as it is to sign up.
