The Dodgers are calling up top prospect Dalton Rushing and designating longtime backup catcher Austin Barnes for assignment.

The Dodgers called up Dalton Rushing, their best position-player prospect, to the majors, and designated backup catcher Austin Barnes for assignment, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon. Fabian Ardaya at The Athletic was first to report the roster move. Barnes, in his 11th season, is the team’s longest-tenured position player.

Update: The Dodgers have designated Austin Barnes for assignment and called up Dalton Rushing, further contributing to the catcher clutter. Rushing is a high-end prospect who will obviously serve as backup catcher and also sneak in some starts in the outfield. He slots 18th at the position for now.
