The non-profit arm of the home-rental marketplace reports "an absolute crush of applications" from those affected by the L.A. fires. Meanwhile, Uber is also stepping up its relief efforts.

Airbnb said Wednesday that it is teaming up with 211 LA on a free temporary housing initiative in response to the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

Airbnb.com, a nonprofit founded by the home rental giant, is partnering with 211 LA to help people that have been displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires. KTLA reports on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

As wildfires in the Los Angeles area continue to spread and force people from their homes, various shelter options have opened to offer free or discounted stays for evacuees—including Airbnb. You can now get a free or discounted stay through Airbnb and hotels around California.

Airbnb will work with 211 LA to identify residents in need of temporary housing and connect them to accommodations offered through Airbnb.org, the company’s non-profit arm which provides free stays through funds from the company and hosts who offer up their homes during disaster situations.

In these cases, hosts and guests can cancel eligible stays without consequence and receive full refunds (or partial refunds for trips that have already started and require guests to evacuate before their official check-out time). Airbnb's customer service team is available for help rebooking stays.
