The guides at the penguin viewing area are friendly and knowledgeable. Even though we only saw 8 penguins and only 2 coming back from their ocean feed, the guides tried their very best to keep the to…Full review by lorinh14

We went into this tour with low expectations, having heard that the numbers of penguins making the daily night-time trek from the ocean to the rookery had inexplicably declined in recent weeks. We we…Full review by Karen P

Hi we are hoping to be in Bicheno in very early January. Is that low or high season for the penguins. I think we would do the tour either way but just wondering what your penguin numbers are like. Also what type of penguins are they. Thanks Anne-Marie

We did this tour in April. From memory they are fairy penguins, like the ones around Sydney harbour and Phillip island in Victoria. There were lots of them as this is a sanctuary. Please be aware, you CAN NOT take photos. The flash effects their eyes. The tour operates at the time of day when the penguins are returning home after a day in the ocean catching fish. You see them walking up the beach to their nests, it’s really lovely. Hopefully the tour company will answer your questions in full ( and more accurately than my answer might be), however, I recommend this tour, and January will be a lot warmer than our chilly mid April. Enjoy your trip, Tasmania really is very beautiful.

We are planning to be in Bicheno next February 13, 2019. Would you recommend taking the Penguin tour at this time of year? I am reading some reports that there are few penguins due to the time of year. Thanks for your feedback. Paul
A:
I was. There a month later and was very happy. We had a couple of dozen. Feb is a better time. I’d go.

Got overseas visitors coming in mid-June. We will be taking them to Wineglass Bay then hope to catch the Penguin Tour on the way back. * What time would we need to be in Bicheno to catch the bus for the Penguin Tour? * Are there many to be seen in June? Thanks Roz
A:
The penguins come out of the water just after the sun goes down everyday
Q:
Hi are there still penguins around we are coming in a couple of days 5th off March And do we have to book Thanks Pam
A:
Yes. You had better call them. The penguins, I believe are 'viewable' all year round. At night they walk into Bicheno too.

Q:
How to make the bookings?
A:
Can just call them to book thru phone. Better to book than be disappointed
