Very relaxing, beautiful spot to spend a few hours swimming and just floating. We enjoyed this springs much more than Bitter Springs, the water is clearer, it's just a stunning spot. Highly recommend.Full review by TwinMumma3514

The Thermal Pool at Mataranka was such a delight! Take your pool noodle and float to hearts content. Surrounded in lush forest & nice and shady.Full review by Kelly W
BE GRATEFUL FOR THE BATS PEOPLE! I really cannot for the life of me understand all the negative and downright hateful comments some of you are ignorantly spewing against the flying fox bats who live here for part of the year. You are aware that they have just as much of a right to live here as we do, are you? And that this land has been their home for hundreds of thousands of years - long before any of you self-serving, self-entitled whiners showed up to take a dip. Us humans have destroyed so much animal habitat, and have pushed so many species into extinction it is an abomination. You should be grateful that these flying foxes are here at all! They are struggling enormously with climate change, and with losing so much of their required habitat to wreckless human development, they are at great risk of becoming threatened with extinction in the near future. And if we lose bats, we are in BIG trouble, as being the voracious pollinators that they are, they are absolutely crucial to the survival of these magical forests and ecosystems, that we so treasure and enjoy. But apart from that, they have just as much of a right to live as we do. I live in Canada, and in recent years, our bat populations have completely crashed due to human destruction - including being killed off by a disease called White-Nosed Syndrome, which was - you guessed it - introduced to Canada by humans. It is heartbreaking. So be happy and grateful that you have these magical, magnificent creatures living in your realm. We are lucky to share this planet with them. Now for my actual question! I have visited the Top End of Australia before and will be returning for a trip in June of this year. And - one of the animals I am really hoping I will be able to see while I am there are - Flying Foxes! I am disappointed to read that they will likely not be here anymore in the month of June. :-( For me, regardless of the smell, it would be wonderful to soak in those hot springs with these gorgeous creatures hanging out in the trees above. So my question is: Is there ANY chance they will be in the area at the beginning of June? Or will they have moved on, and if so where? If they aren't at the Mataranka hot springs anymore, do you know where I can find them at that time of year? I really would love to spend some time in an area where I can witness their nocturnal activities, and see them hanging out up in the trees, or anywhere else they might be. What specific place should I travel to in the Top End in order to be able to see them? Thank-you!

I agree that the bats are fantastic & have more right to be there than us. However, when you have no idea they’re going to be there & the area is advertised as a swimming hole I think a heads up is required. I love animals & I think going there with the express interest to see them should be encouraged. The day I attended we were not equipped for an animal excursion & my gripe was that there was no information at all on the Mataranka Springs website. Education is key. ♂️
