If you are walking, then it is a climb to reach this museum. However, the reward is magnificent views as cross the town and its harbour. This museum has large rooms with high ceilings and large windo…Full review by TWal1

Glad we saved this to do after the first couple of days of getting used to "climbing". There are many uphill climbs in Hydra, and this was a really good one. My exercise for the day for certain. Th…Full review by wme133

Many reviews mentioned this mansion is "worth the climb". Please give me more details about this, i.e., are there steps/ramps, etc.? How long does it take to get there from the port? Some of the people in our group have walking difficulties. Is there an alternative way for them to get to the mansion?

In order someone to visit Hydra island generally must be capable of walking in pebble stones which most of them have been destroyed by the donkeys. The visitor should ware sport shoes,(sneakers)NO HIGH HILLS,and for those who have difficulties in walking Hydra island should be avoided. Lazaros Kountouriotis mansion is not very far from the harbour (150-200 meteres approximately) but the visitor should climb at least 50-60 steps.Generally visits should be either early in the morning or late in the evening.During July and August there is a lot of heat and since you have to walk ONLY in order to visit some places it is wise to avoid extension during noon. Hydra island is a extremely wonderful island.I should say it is unique especially due to the lack of any vehicles (even bicycles)Disable people should visit only places around the harbour where there are no steps and the Wheel chairs should move with some difficulty due to the quality of the pebbled streets but they can be moved. 0 seconds ago
