I think it opens around 9am and closes sharply at 5pm. Good little tip is to get there around 4:30 and then you can stay as long as you like after it closes. I am almost sure you might be able to visit after it closes. However, it not worth the trip if you have to travel far or have limited time. Go and see Xunantunich, but be warned they will not let you in after 3:30pm even if you're a few minutes late. If time isn't an issue see Cahal then Xunantunich.

We took the cruiseship tour. It was worth it! We went in an air-conditioned bus with a local tour guide who is a professional in archaeology and very knowledgeable in everything related to the Mayan ruins and the history of the area. It was a great trip and learned a lot!
